Vimage today announced the availability of driver updates for two of its most popular products. The Vpower PB 1400 G3/233 CPU upgrade for the PowerBook 1400; and, the Vpower PF G3/240 CPU upgrade for the Performa and Power Macintosh 54xx/55xx/64xx/65xx.
The new software for the PB 1400–which is the same driver used for the new Vpower PB 2400 series–solves a compatibility issue that some upgraded 1400s were having with MacOS 8.5 when virtual memory was turned on. In addition, it adds a control strip module that enables the user to adjust his or her backside cache speed ratio. By reducing this ratio to its lowest setting, a user can prolong battery life by up to 15%.
The other software solves a compatibility issue that a small number of Apus 2000/160 computers were having with the PF G3/240 card. The Apus is a flavor of Umax clone whose sales have chiefly been outside the US.
